How does hot foiling actually work?
Hot foil label printing is a premium process which uses a combination of heat and pressure to create a luxurious metallic label. An engraved metal die (plate) is used with your chosen design, heated up and forced firmly against the label material, resulting in the design of the die being transferred onto the material. Our hot foil printed labels come in a wide variety of gold, silver and copper colours; and matt or gloss pigments, so you have various options to decide what type of hot foil labels works best with your design and brand. With a huge rainbow of metallic colours, hot foiling will cater for any product.
To provide maximum protection to the foiled labels, some people opt for lamination finishes to provide a clear film which prevents abrasion to the labels when in transit. We recommend adding this to your hot foil printed labels to ensure they look flawless on the shelf.

Hot Foil Label Printing FAQs
Hot foil label printing is a label printing technique that produces a beautiful metallic finish to labels. Hot foil printing can improve the perceived quality and value of a product at a relatively low cost while creating something really attractive on the shelf.
The process is centuries old, however the modern processes of laying extremely thin foil laid out on rolls in the 1930s has led to the less expensive and less labour-intensive version of the process used today. You can choose from metallic foils which are the most traditional kinds of foils, or you can use pigmented (non-metallic) foils which are opaque or semi-opaque foils in chromatic colours.
Hot foil label printing is ideal if you have a special size or shape requirement for your label and don’t want to pay hundreds for it. Foil adds a luxury feel to a label and so is commonly seen paired with premium materials on luxury food, beverage and cosmetic products.
As hot foil label printing is an inkless process, and the foil is not affected by the label’s base colour, the foil can look incredibly eye catching against a dark or black label. Make your product stand out even more on the shelves with the correct colouring!
You can achieve so many different finishes with hot foil label printing. The traditional metallic options are joined by glass, matt, pearlescent, marbled and even 3D holographic foils.
Multiple coloured foil printing requires multiple runs through the press with a different set of dies. Therefore, if your design has multiple coloured foils, be aware that this may be more expensive than single colour foils.
