If you want to prevent your labels from peeling, using a permanent adhesive along with the right material for your packaging type will ensure they stay securely in place.

 

A chemical label should not include any terms, phrases or words that may mislead the user about the hazards present or underestimate them. For example, you should avoid using statements such as ‘safe’, ‘non-harmful’, ‘non-toxic’, ‘non-polluting’, ‘ecological’ or ‘eco’ on the chemicals if this isn’t relevant. Any other statements that contradict the classification of the substance or mixture being placed on the market should not appear on the label either.

The Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) states that chemical manufacturers, importers or distributers must ensure each container that contains hazardous chemicals is labelled, tagged or marked with:

  • Product identifier
  • Signal word
  • Hazard statements
  • Precautionary statements
  • Precautionary pictograms
  • Name, address and telephone number of the chemical manufacturer, importer or other responsible parties

It’s also a good idea to add directions/uses/instructions for your product to avoid misuse along with storage requirements, ingredients. This will help your customers to get the most out of your product as well as avoiding any harmful incidents.

You can usually find out the list of ingredients and care information from your manufacturer either on their website or by phoning the manufacturer directly for the list.

Mixing certain chemicals together can be dangerous, so when you’re creating your chemical labels for your products, it’s important to list the types of chemicals, dyes, fragrances included. You may also find that many people have allergies or intolerances to certain chemicals, so these need to be clearly labelled on the back of your product.

Including directions on your product is important to give your customers hints on how to make the product most effective. Include information like how long to leave it on the surface, what to mix it with or whether it needs rinsing off.

We recommend including a QR code on your label, allowing consumers to access additional information, videos, or instructions online without using extra space on the product.

Alternatively, you could opt for a multi-page label, which is ideal for providing instructions in multiple languages across several pages.
